Building an Airport

Our class is building the Air Traffic Control Tower for our airport and flight to the Amazon Rainforest in South America.  I divided the project into 5 groups and the children signed up for the part that they wanted to help build.

The first group decided to make the windows by drawing large windows on each side of the control tower.

Then, after the windows were cut out, they taped clear wrap to the box for the windowpanes.

Our next group looked a lots of pictures of control towers before they decided to paint ours blue and white.

Every air traffic control tower has to have powerful satellites and radio antenna to communicate with all of the airplanes.

The group that worked on the instrument panel decided that we needed buttons and knobs.

Finally, the last group worked to make our computer screens and keyboards.

The finished Air Traffic Control Tower!

Halloween Fun!

With Halloween just around the corner, we are having such a great time that it is...SPOOKY!!!  First, we did a science investigation with our class pumpkin.  We talked about its features and estimated its height and weight. Some of their estimations were very funny!  Then, the children got to actually weigh the pumpkin and used cubes to find out its height.  This investigation is our first entry in our science notebooks!

October's 100 Book Club

We got to celebrate with a lot of friends who made a goal for the 100 Book Club.  Look who read 25 books!

Jinwoo met two goals this month.  He also made the 50 book goal!

One More!

A few weeks ago, we learned a new math game called One More.  It quickly became a class favorite so I sent a copy home with everyone.  Look who was found playing One More at home with their family!

Field Trip to the Auburn Airport!

We had a great time at the Auburn Airport!  Our class loved the different rotations and we learned so much.  I took tons of pictures and couldn't decide which ones to post, so I made a slide show!  I hope you enjoy it!

When we got back to school, everyone was talking about their favorite part of the trip.  We did a survey and found out that most of the class enjoyed    the best.

We came in this morning to find that 4 of our eggs had hatched and that 10 more had cracks in them!!!

Oh, what an exciting day it is!

We have been keeping a close eye on the incubator and the children got to see one of our chicks hatch out!  I also got a video of one hatching.
