Incubating Eggs part 2

The day before we left for Spring Break, our eggs arrived from the farm.  Everyone was so excited!  The children have been waiting for the eggs ever since our incubators arrived!

We got 18 eggs!  The children wanted to put them in the incubator as soon as Mrs. Shelton delivered them, but from our research we found out that they would need to incubate for 21 days before they hatched.  We didn't want them to hatch over the weekend so I decided to wait a few days before putting them in the incubator.

I came back to the school on Tuesday morning while we were on Spring Break and put the eggs in our incubator.  We will keep track of the chicks' development with the chart.  Each day, our helper will cross out another picture.  It won't be long before we have chicks!

Incubating Eggs part 1

Today is such an exciting day!  Our incubators and egg turners arrived from Donors Choose!  The children were so excited when Mrs. Kathy brought the boxes to our classroom!  Now all that we need is for our eggs to be delivered!

Dog Bite Prevention Class

We had some VERY special visitors today from Auburn University.  Jenny and her two puppies came to our classroom to teach us about dogs and dog safety!  We learned a lot of safety tips and had a great time greeting and petting Jenny and her puppies.

The children learned that you should always ask the dog's owner if you can pet their dog before trying to touch it.

We learned that you should always let a dog smell you before touching it.

We also found out that if a dog is chasing you that you should not run but just stand still and if a dog jumps up on you that you should cover your head and face.

At the end, we learned just how sweet and playful puppies are.

Read Across America Week Part 1

This week we had a great time celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday and kicking off Read Across America!  We read lots of great books and had fun exploring Dr. Seuss' world.

One of our favorite activities was making Oobleck!  We read the book Bartholomew and the Oobleck.  The children loved it and made lots of predictions about about what Oobleck was.

First, we used our senses to describe the Oobleck.  Then we got down and dirty exploring the gooey, green substance!

We made a chart to compare our predictions with what we actually discovered.

We also used what we learned about Oobleck to talk about solids and liquids.

The children decided that the things in the middle could be both solids and liquids.

Finally, I asked the children if they thought it was possible to walk on Oobleck.  Only one friend thought it was possible.

Watch the video below and see who was right!
