It's Hatching Day!!! It's Hatching Day!!!!

We came in this morning to find that 4 of our eggs had hatched and that 10 more had cracks in them!!!

Oh, what an exciting day it is!

We have been keeping a close eye on the incubator and the children got to see one of our chicks hatch out!  I also got a video of one hatching.

The Narwhal part 1

Through our research on the Arctic Ocean we learned about a very cool animal, the Narwhal.  Our class decided that we would need to learn more about this animal.

We also knew that if we were going to build a narwhal, then he had to have an ocean to live in.  The children signed up for the job that they wanted to do.

We started by measuring the wall to see how much paper we needed.

Then we painted water onto the paper.

Finally, we crumpled the paper up to make waves.

Once the twilight group finished, we worked on the sunlit zone and the ocean floor.

We used sand from the sand table to make the ocean floor.

Meeting Charles Best

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to meet Charles Best, the founder and CEO of Donorschoose.org.  It was an amazing experience! He told the group at Women's Philanthropy Board luncheon about our classroom and the incubation project that we just had funded! I was very honored to be asked to represent Auburn City Schools and to have our classroom recognized! Plus, he gave everyone in attendance a $50 gift card to bless a classroom. With the gift cards that I got from the luncheon, my latest project, Science Is Cool but We Need Materials For Science In School!, has now been funded.  In addition, the project that I am currently drafting, Can We Build It? Yes We Can!, will have a good start! Thank you to everyone who has blessed our classroom!
