Composting

We had a very exciting discovery today!  While doing apple research, we learned that some of the apples that fall on the ground are put into a compost bin.  That fact made ALL of our after-school friends excited because we have our very own compost bin at Cary Woods!  Our class wanted to learn more about composting so we decided to ask Mrs. Cyndi.

At the writing center, Haley wrote an e-mail to Mrs. Cyndi.

Mrs. Cyndi, We want you to help us learn about your compost bin.  Can you come teach us?

Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Cyndi came to teach us all about recycling and composting!

She read us a book about recycling and composting.

Mrs. Cyndi also brought us some games and blank books that the kids in after-school made from recycled things.
Then, she showed us what kind of things can go in the compost bins to make soil!

We learned that composting can sometimes be smelly!

Finally, we got to go outside and see the compost bins!

We even saw worms and slugs that were living in the compost bin.
