Going Camping at the Home Living Center...Building Our Campsite

With our Kindergarten Camp Out coming up, we decided to change our Home Living Center into a campsite.  We were all super excited about this!  I must admit, I'm not a big outdoors kind of person and I've never really been camping.  So, to get started, I wanted to see what the kids knew about camping.  As it turns out, they knew quite a lot!

After setting up our initial camping gear, the children decided that our campsite needed a lake and a stream for fishing.  We talked about the best way to make our lake and stream.  Then Sophia and Kimberly wrote out a plan.

Next, the children decided to build a campfire.  After coming up with some ideas, we decided that we needed sticks and rocks.  However, we didn't find many of these when we went out for recess. During center time, Carter, Gabriel and Michael sat down and wrote an e-mail to our After School Program Director asking for help.

We also made signs to help campers navigate the campsite.

Finally, we made fish for the our lake.  The children wanted to actually catch the fish so they decided to put magnets on each fish so that they would be attracted to the magnet on the fishing rod.
