Cutie's Funeral

Monday afternoon, our sweet hamster, Cutie passed away.  Our class really loved Cutie and they were truly upset when I told them the sad news.  We decided that we needed to have a special ceremony for Cutie so that we could say good-bye to her.  I am so proud of how hard the children worked on all of the arrangements for Cutie's funeral.

We started with a web where we brainstormed our ideas for her funeral.

Next, the children signed up for the part of the arrangements they wanted to help with.

Designing her casket was first.  Camden, Emma, Will and Brooks decided to use a shoe box.  Each person wanted to paint the casket their favorite color.  They also decided to make her a bed and blanket to put inside the casket for her to lie on.

Dear School,
We need a shoebox for our pet hamster.  We are making a casket for her funeral.
Your friend,
Mrs. Sanders' Class

Ja'Corey, Alex, Katie and Lucy started working on the headstone went next.  They decided to use a garden paver for her headstone.  After designing the picture and wording on paper, they used Sharpie Markers to decorate the headstone.

Some children wanted to write songs for Cutie's funeral.  Cathy and Shilah wrote a song that they would sing together and Malik wrote a song to sing by himself.

We loved Cutie.
We loved Cutie.

She was cute.
She was cute.

We miss her.
We miss her.

Yes we do.
Yes we do.

Eden, Kynidee and Omauri wrote a speech for Cutie.

Cutie was a good pet.
She made us smile.
She loved to run.
She was so nice.
We always pet her.

The children wanted to make sure that everyone knew they were invited to Cutie's funeral.  James, Isaac, Chole and Joey made an invitation, typed it up and delivered it around the school.

Please come to Cutie's funeral.
It is at 10:30.
It is in the courtyard.
Bring flowers to Cutie.

After all of the arrangements were made, Kaylen and Sophie made the program.

After Cutie's funeral, our class had a meal provided by the parents who attended!
